General Washington and the Dance ~ An Evening’s Entertainment

Doors open at 5:45 PM and performance start at 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
In 18th Century America, dancing was considered a necessary accomplishment for Persons of Quality as it provided them with grace, deportment and social skills.
One such person was to become the 1st President of the United States of America, General George Washington.
Discover Danceworks (501c3) in association with Danza Antiqua present an entertaining dance, history and educational program featuring dancers in period clothing, elegant, energetic and stylish social dances, popular at the time of the founding of the new Republic.
Popular songs of the period will be performed live by our resident vocalists.
The program will be interspersed with humorous and informative period readings to explain dance & song origins, the social settings in which they were enjoyed, and how dances are reconstructed from period dance manuals.
The program will bring dances & society to life.
